I don't want to appear scolding or negative. But with all due respect, given the serious world cooking oil shortage, especially in developing countries, due to the war in Ukraine, perhaps cooking sites should be sensitive to that and ask all of us to keep away from deep fried recipes for now. It seems frivolous to highlight deep frying given what's going on nowadays. I'd like to learn ways to conserve oil and help direct US supplies to those in need.

If it makes any difference a) we use olive oil, not canola or sunflower and b) we strain and save it for future frying so it's not wasteful. You could also use tallow or lard.
