Three* Things We Like, Round Five: Father's Day Edition
A custom mug that will keep your coffee warm forever, a serious knife sharpener, FASHION, and two good books.

Hi! We don’t live on Substack anymore, but will occasionally be posting here to remind you to visit us at our new home. You can sign up for a membership or a free subscription, here.
1. Custom Yeti Mug
Nick got this for me for Mother’s Day—mine is hot pink, it says “Morning Princess” on it, it’s hideous—and I love it. I like to drink my coffee slowly, and lukewarm coffee is gross. If you keep the sipping spot closed when you’re not actively drinking, the coffee stays hot forever. You still have time to customize.
2. Tormek T-1 Knife Sharpener
This is a real-deal knife sharpener, but not in a scary way, just in the sense that it works very well, and fast (it’s also on the pricier side). It’s small, not too heavy, and takes no time at all to get through all your knives. An awesome gift for someone who takes home cooking seriously (whether that’s you or someone you like—your decision).
3. Wrangler x Made In Chef Chore Coat
Made In, one of our favorite cookware brands, just released their collaboration with Wrangler, and this chore coat is so, so nice. “It’s the sort of thing one can wear with anything, to any occasion.” (H/T Julian from Bridget Jones’s Diary.) Nick is 6’6” and has a hard time buying anything that’s long enough (if you have good recs here, I’d love to hear them), but if that weren’t the case, I would jump at the chance to get him this.
4. I Regret Almost Everything
This book has gotten a lot of press, and rightfully so. If you don’t live in New York, if you don’t know who Keith McNally is—a New York restaurateur famous for the Odeon and Balthazar and Pastis—it hardly matters. It’s probably the most unapologetically honest memoir I’ve ever read. If everyone wrote this honestly, I’d read more memoirs.
5. Barbecue: Smoked & Grilled Recipes From Across the Globe
Yes, it’s another ode to grilling, but it’s not at all typical. This book from Hugh Mangum (co-founder of Mighty Quinn’s) features grilled dishes from all over the world: Indonesian Fish Skewers, Maple-Smoked Salmon (Canada), Algierian Smoked Chicken, Berbere Ribs (Ethiopia), Grilled Provolone (Argentina). It runs the gamut, and there are mains, sides, apps, desserts—all of it. We’ll personally be digging in this summer. (We’ve got a couple sample recipes for you: the Hungarian Chimney Cake, pictured above, and the Oyster Mushroom Satay.)
